The traditional airbrush training is face-to-face, studio-based
learning involves lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practices. For any airbrush
application, there are some fundamental techniques, which serve as the bases for further
development and practices. In my teaching, I analyzed these basic techniques into what I
called “four actions” and implemented them in my Introduction to Airbrushing course. In
this project, I will transfer my face-to-face teaching into an online environment and use a
series of eLearning tools to help the learners to master the basic airbrush techniques.

The rationale for the design of your learning object
Airbrush is a mechanical art tool that was widely used in many creative industries before
the digital age. This versatile tool has developed many unique styles and techniques that
are transformed into the digital format today, such as the gradation and blending tools in
photoshop. Nowadays, it has become a special niche in the custom art and craft industry
with only a fewer professional practitioners remaining to provide the creative service. Like
many other traditional crafts, it is facing the danger of being obsolete. However, there is so
much value in this medium, not only because it can be used to create artwork on many
different surfaces, but also it has the social value of being an inclusive medium for all ages
and classes. As an artist and SME, it is important to amplify this social value of
inclusiveness through teaching a form of art, in this case, expanding the traditional
airbrush teaching into eLearning can create another meaningful space to attract and
influence new learners to experience this unique art too. Ultimately, stimulate individual
creativity and support a diverse learning environment.

How to meet learners’ needs
The airbrush learners come from many different backgrounds in different technical levels,
and they have different learning needs for different applications, just like airbrush art itself,
there is no single solution for all the applications. Therefore, the learners need diversified
learning experiences and facilitation.
The key point in meeting the individual needs in teaching airbrush art, is to deconstruct the
complicated process into small technical components. By creating smaller teaching
segments through explaining the underlying principles, demonstrating the techniques and

By implementing hand-on exercises, the teaching process should facilitate each learners’
technical level, give the learners the opportunity to experience and understand each
learning block so they can reconstruct the learned techniques creatively to their
applications.
The goal of the learning is not limited to the technical learning of airbrush art, more
importantly, the learning should stimulate the interest in community participation,
exchange ideas and learn from each other through discussion and constructive critics.
Therefore, building a multidisciplinary learning environment that can benefit each individual
socially and intellectually.
Tools to be used in eLearning.
In my face-to-face classes, I utilized three important elements in my teaching method:
seeing, thinking, and doing. Therefore, the etools I need must satisfy the need of
implementing these components.
Videos are one of the most important tools in this eLearning process. It can help me to
explain the airbrush techniques, showing step to step instructions through demonstration.
The learners can have a more comprehensive view of the process and they can also
review the process in detail during the learning process.
Images and diagrams will be used to provide illustrations for some important information
such as the anatomy of the airbrush, the airflow dynamics, basic tools, and materials needed in
airbrushing. These visuals can provide useful references to help the learners to
understand the fundamental knowledge of the airbrush system.Online Gallery- show and tell section will be another important tool in this eLearning. This
will give the learners the opportunity to share their artworks or process by pictures or
videos, and comments on each other’s work. This section relies on the social forum and
discussion tools. Online chatrooms and social media tools may also be used to help the
learners to get more exposure and feedback.

The accessibility considerations incorporated
Video subtitles will be considered in the production of the instruction videos to ensure a
clear communication, in accordance to :
The text size and font should be legible and the written language should be simple and
concise for the learners. Whereas the terminology is used, it should be explained in plain
language and may be supported by visuals for explanation and clarification.
Expert facilitation should be available online, via video conference, or voice calls by
the scheduled time. Email inquiries should be answered within 48 hours.

Instructions:
How to begin airbrushing: the Four Actions in Fundamental Airbrush Techniques.
You want to learn to airbrush but don’t know where to start, maybe you have
experimented with airbrushing for a while, but still not getting control of using it to create a
fine line or a smooth blending of colors? Are you wondering whether there are any secrets
in airbrush techniques? The answer is simple, there are only four basic actions in airbrush,
and these basic techniques are the foundations for all the amazing airbrush artwork. You
can learn these four actions in the next 10 minutes, then the sky is the only limit for your
creativity.
What are the four actions in an airbrush?
First, before we get into the action, let us understand how airbrush works, the following
video will give you a fundamental understanding of the airbrush system and its operation
principles:

Introduction to the Fundamental Airbrush Techniques with eLearning https://www.flipsnack.com/airbrushing4u/text-flipbook.html Course background and description.
